Staff at a post office in the Ceiriog Valley have been recognised with an award for their efforts in supporting the community during lockdown.

Mandy and Phil Connor, who work at Pontfadog Post Office, are to receive an award from the Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) next month.

The pair were put forward for the award for ensuring the community of Pontfadog was not left without its post office during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Phil said: “We’d like to thank our customers really because they’re the ones who have supported us throughout all of this.

“I think it was easier for us to stay open than to not throughout the pandemic.

“Overall we are just very happy we could and happy to be able to help people where possible.”

During lockdown, the pair also collected money to donate to various hospital organisations across the region, something Phil is also happy to have helped with.

He said: “The amount we collected which had gone to various hospital organisations was really nice.

“We sent the final cheque out at the start of the month for £400.

“We have stopped collections for now, but if the pandemic worsens again, we can start it up again.

“It gives other charities a chance to be collected for now during what’s been a tough time for a lot of them.”
