Oswestry Town Council has agreed with Oswestry Business Improvement District (BID) and the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) on how it will spend investment money.

The money, around £12,000, which has come from Marches LEP, will be spread across four projects to improvement the public realm, visitor experience and also will go towards improving marketing for the town.

Around £5,000 will be spent on jet washing on all major footpaths in Oswestry, subject to quotations for the work while £2,000 will be spent on cleaning, tidying up and painting street furniture, lighting and seating areas.

Around £3,000 will be spent in updating and replacing town maps which are placed in strategic areas around Oswestry, while there is an intention to design and hand out around 20,000 leaflets promoting the area.

From there, the remaining money of £1,900 will be spent on the marketing of Oswestry, focusing on the attractiveness of the town as a place to visit.

According to the application form sent to councillors, this will be done through social media, targeted adverts on Facebook, boosted Google views and through local media.

There are plans to improve the Powis Market Hall on the Bailey Head with a frontage upgrade.

A spokesman for the plan said: “Providing funds are received by the end of August, we would plan to have the works and associated marketing campaign completed by the end of October.”
