A mountain rescue team helped locate a family after they became lost in poor conditions while walking near a north Powys village.

North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) were called to help the family who had become lost on a steep hill near Llangynog on Saturday (August 22).

A spokesman from NEWSAR said: "Dyfed-Powys Police called the team to assist a family that found themselves unable to continue with their route due to very steep ground on a hill near Llangynog. The party was cold and wet and it was very windy.

"Through advice by phone and text they were redirected back uphill to safe ground.

"Once they were moving we lost contact with them so a small mixed group of NEWSAR and South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team team members went to escort them off the hill.

"In the end the party managed to find their way down just as team members arrived.

"After a quick welfare check they headed home".
