A GROUP of dedicated volunteers have cleared an overgrown footpath through an ancient Flintshire cemetery.

Members of the Hawarden community spent \ sweltering Tuesday afternoon clearing the stretch of the Mancot to Hawarden footpath which runs through St. Deiniol's Church cemetery.

The popular footpath - likely dating back several hundred years - that links the two villages had become vastly overgrown during the lockdown period, but is clear once again thanks to the hard work of the group of volunteers.

Among them was Hawarden community councillor Ant Turton.

He said: "A massive thanks to the local residents who turned up today to start work on the church grounds. We cleared the ancient public footpath from Cross Tree Lane up through the church and in to the village.

"Really hard work in the heat but any hands make short work so don't be shy and shout out if you can be of any assistance."
