THE roof of an Oswestry house was damaged on Wednesday evening after it was struck by lightning.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) was called to a property in Hayes Close at around 6.50pm.

Two crews from Oswestry were in attendance with an operations officer.

Crews found the roof to the house had been damaged by a lightning strike.

Firefighters spent around an hour at the house.

It was a busy night for Shropshire’s firefighters as thunder and lightning and heavy rain hit areas all over the county.

SFRS received multiple callouts to flood-related incidents, as well as a callout to a second house fire in Oswestry in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to a property in Middleton Road at 2.26am.

Two crews from Oswestry arrived and discovered a fire involving the main electrical circuit to the property.

They checked the house with a thermal imaging camera, and left the property after just under 25 minutes.
