AN ARTS centre in the heart of Builth Wells will remain closed for the time being.

Wyeside said the decision not to reopen is to ensure the safety of the community.

“Due to lockdown, there are not many new films available at the moment, and live shows are not likely to happen for many months yet,” Wyeside said in a statement.

“We have decided that it would be better to wait until we have a variety of events to offer you, and until we are confident that we can reopen safely, both for you and us".

Wyeside claims the title of ‘longest running cinema in Wales,’ and has been screening movies since 1911.

The arts centre which was damaged by floods in February says it has received the first payment from its GoFundMe campaign .

“We have not been able to put it to use yet due to lockdown, but we have a shopping list ready to replace all the damaged equipment. We’d like to thank everybody who supported us after Storm Dennis. We were overwhelmed by your kindness.”
