A WREXHAM Council scheme in partnership with voluntary services is ensuring no local child goes hungry.

The scheme - named ‘At the End of the Rainbow’ (AER) - after consultation with children, with one of them even designing a logo.

The staffing of the AER Food Bags scheme is made up of three teams; Wrexham Family Information Service (with support from other Children’s Services staff), the School Meals Catering Service and Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) staff and volunteers.

The scheme started at the beginning of May and will run until the end of August. In addition to the food bags, families also received craft bags and information about sources of help and advice if they need it.

The scheme is now delivering approximately 220 food bags per week to families who need them all across Wrexham, with each bag containing enough food for one school aged child for breakfast and lunch for five days.

The AER teams are said to have received lots of positive feedback from families across Wrexham

Cllr Andrew Atkinson, lead member for children’s services at Wrexham Council, said: “It was extremely important that vulnerable children across Wrexham continued to receive enough food to keep them healthy and to relieve stress on their parents.

"The AER teams should be extremely proud of what they have and continue to achieve. Thank you to everyone that has been involved in this successful partnership work to bring this essential service to our children and their parents.”
