Oswestry-based businesses working in the hospitality sector have been recognised with awards from one of the world’s largest travel websites.

Businesses in the town have been named as Travellers’ Choice winners by Trip Advisor, with some named in the top 10 per cent of restaurants worldwide.

Liar Liar café in Albion Hill was named among the best, alongside fellow Oswestry food outlet, Fat Rabbit, based in Bailey Street.

A few doors down, The Bailey Head was also named as a winner, adding to their Market Towns Pub of the Year award by Shrewsbury and West Shropshire Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) award.

Also being recognised was The British Ironwork Centre, which has been given a Travellers’ Choice badge.

Linda Clark, of Fat Rabbit felt pleased to be named as a winner, but is also pleased to see many other places in the town winning the award.

She said: “It’s good in Oswestry that we have a lot of people who like to support local businesses.

“A lot of customers spread themselves about a bit as well by coming here and then going to Liar Liar and Townhouse and all other independent businesses we have in the town.

“We have great independents here, and it’s more of an all-together thing because customers show their support to all of us not just to one place.

With the awards based partly on positive reviews submitted by customers on the Trip Advisor website, Linda says it is always nice to receive positive feedback.

She said: “I think it’s nice to know people like what we do, especially with people coming from outside the area as well.

“For us, as we are the only vegan café in the area, I do find a lot of people come specifically to Oswestry to visit us.

“You know when you have customers in who have enjoyed their time, but when people make that extra effort to go online and take time out to make a nice comment and encourage other customers to visit, that’s amazing.

“We have people who are vegan who have been coming here since we opened and I have always found it to be very important to ensure the food is good.

“I want customers to have a really good meal and think at the end of it, ‘oh, that was actually vegan as well’.”
