A MOLD woman who died in hospital was being treated for a "serious head injury", an inquest heard.

Sarah Louise Gibbons, 48, of Broncoed Park, was admitted to Wrexham Maelor Hospital on July 17 but sadly died at the intensive care unit three days later on July 20.

A police investigation was launched into the circumstances leading to her admission, and prior to her death a man had been arrested on suspicion of assault but was released pending further enquiries.

And on Tuesday (July 28), an inquest was opened into the death of Mrs Gibbons, who was a mother-of-two, by John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central.

At a brief hearing at Denbighshire County Hall in Ruthin, Mr Gittins said a Home Office post mortem into Mrs Gibbins' death found a provisional cause of death to be "severe blunt force head injury".

Mr Gittins said that the police investigation is believed to be at an "advanced stage", but that the full inquest will be adjourned until is clear whether anyone will be charged in connection with Mrs Gibbons' death.
