The 2020 instalment of the Ceiriog Valley Sheepdog Trials and Show is one of the latest events in the region to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Members of the show’s committee have taken the decision to cancel the event, even if lockdown is raised before the scheduled date of Saturday, August 29, as they believe there would not be sufficient time to plan.

With some competitors regularly travelling to the annual event from overseas, including competitors from as far as California, it was decided it would be too much of a risk to go ahead with plans.

The committee is hopeful the show will be back better than ever in 2021.

Wrexham County Borough councillor for Ceiriog Valley, Trevor Bates, admits it is a shame to see the event cancelled, but believes it was a decision which had to be made.

He said: “We just couldn’t get it done this year – it takes months of organisation, so we’ve had to cancel it.

“We have international competitors travelling from far and wide, and some of the judges are international judges as well.

“It’s a shame it won’t be happening this year, but we hope it will be back again next year.

“It’s disappointing, but that’s life.

“There are other local trials which take place across the region throughout the summer, but they are a lot more local, so no word has been given on them just yet.”
