ABOUT 172 million items of PPE have been issued to the health and social care system in Wales during the coronavirus pandemic.

The latest statistics show that the NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) has issued more than 13 million items in the seven days prior to June 21.

Since March 9, some 172 items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has been issued to hospitals and other locations providing frontline health and social care.

Gloves, aprons, and masks are the most common pieces of equipment to be issued.

51,284,058 masks, of four different types, have been issued. In addition, 1,600,124 eye protectors have been distributed as well as 1,842,543 face visors.

29,311,550 aprons have been issued, 1,42,150 in the last seven days.

With hand washing one of the advised methods to prevent the spread of the disease, the latest statistics show that 143,912 bottles of hand sanitiser and 2,148,100 hand wipes have been distributed. in addition, 83,842,450 packs of gloves have been issued.

In perhaps the most stark reminder of the impact of the coronavirus infection in Wales, the statistics show that 7,643 body bags have been issued since March 9.
