AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a prisoner who is believed to have died from Covid-19.
The inquest into the death of Thomas Dooley, 60, of HMP Berwyn was opened by John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales (East and Central) on June 1.
Thomas Dooley was serving a custodial sentence for numerous offences including murder and attempted murder.
He was admitted to Wrexham Maelor hospital on May 1 and thereafter tested positive for Covid-19.
On May 10 he was transferred to the intensive care unit where he was incubated but made ‘little progress’ and later died on May 26.
Mr Gittins said that post-mortem results showed the cause of death to be from Covid-19 and Mr Dooley had underlying health conditions.
The inquest has been adjourned.
