A Llanfyllin-based cleaner has expanded his sanitising operation to Welshpool.

Matt Saxon, who runs Saxon Clean, has been getting up early to keep surfaces such as handrails clean to help prevent those who are working or shopping from catching coronavirus.

Initially, he was just cleaning Llanfyllin, as well as Llanfechain, but this morning he was out in Welshpool too.

Writing on Twitter, Welshpool Fire Station said: "Thanks to Saxon Clean for coming to Welshpool this morning to sanitise a lot of the public areas of the town. Saxon Clean is run by a fellow firefighter from Llanfyllin Fire.

"Your dedication is appreciated by all of us at Welshpool."

Matt set up a GoFundMe to help with his costs as he expands into neighbouring towns and has thanked everyone for their help so far.

He said: “I am going to be going out spraying sanitiser on walkways, handles, railings and generally anything anyone touches in such places as our Spar, the doctors’ surgery and the square.

“And I am also offering this to people who are vulnerable and elderly, to hopefully help prevent the spread of anything. I am offering this free of charge and once-a-week.

“If you have any elderly or vulnerable friends or family, please let me know and I will do my utmost to get out to them once a week.

“This is a free service to try keep us all a little bit safer,” he added.

“If you have any friends or family who are elderly or vulnerable and would benefit from this service, please get in touch.”
