Staff at a post office in the Ceiriog Valley have been collecting money to purchase some small treats for health and care workers in the region.

Mandy and Phil Connor, who work at Pontfadog Post Office, have been collecting donations from customers in a tin, and using the money raised to buy coffee, tea and biscuits for those working on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic.

So far they have been able to purchase more than £130 worth of treats, and are still collecting donations.

Mandy said: “We’ve been able to give biscuits and coffee to the district nurses working in Wrexham, some biscuits and tea bags to the GP surgery in Llangollen, and also Chirk Surgery.

“We’ve also given biscuits to Chirk Community Hospital, some to the Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen and some to the community nurses in Chirk as well.

“It’s just a little something we can all offer to them together.

“Initially, because we had a shortage of toilet rolls, people were donating them to us to give them out to nurses and NHS staff if they were unable to get them, and it seems to have just grown from there.”

Mandy added that she and Phil have been grateful for the support and generosity of the people using the Post Office.

“People have just wanted to give something back really,” she said.

“People have been very good in donating – we just put a pot on the counter and people donate what they want really.”

“It’s just nice to give the health and care workers a little treat as a community.

“This has all come from our customers – we’re grateful for their donations and they are extremely grateful for the NHS and key workers.”
