A LYNEAL-based charity could receive a funding boost thanks to a national fundraiser.
The Canal and River Trust has launched their Waterway Charities Appeal, aimed at providing funding to charities based around the UK’s waterways.
The Lyneal Trust, who provide canal holidays for elderly and disabled people, are funded by charitable donations, but have been forced to temporarily close because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This closure has seen their cashflow evaporate, but there is hope that the Canal and River Trust’s appeal will be able to provide some funding.
A spokesman for the Canal and River Trust said that without help, some smaller charities could go under.
They said: “Without immediate help, the coronavirus pandemic could prove disastrous for these small charities.
“All the funds raised by this appeal will be distributed by the Canal and River Trust in small grants to local waterway-based community charities, to ensure they can continue to operate in the months and years ahead
Lyneal Trust chairman, Chris Symes, said he hoped funding would be made available to them in the near future.
“Everything still quiet at the wharf,” he said.
“There may be a chance of some funding via the Canal and River Trust.
“The [Lyneal] Trust hopes everyone is keeping well in these strange times.”
