A WOMAN from Welshampton died after falling down the stairs at her home, a coroner has ruled.

On February 9, 2020, Sally-Anne Jarrett, 55, was found by her husband at the foot of the stairs at their home in Robin's Grove.

Mrs Jarrett, was discovered by her husband Martin after he returned from walking the dogs.

Mr Jarrett called the emergency services and attempted CPR, but despite this, Mrs Jarrett was pronounced dead by paramedics at 4.40pm.

At an inquest, coroner for Shropshire John Ellery heard a statement from Mr Jarrett, read out on his behalf by the coroner's officer.

In the statement, Mr Jarrett explained how the couple had decided to take the dogs for a walk in Bronington on the morning of February 9, but the weather was so poor when they arrived Mrs Jarrett stayed in the car.

They later took the recycling to the depot in Whitchurch and planned on going shopping too, but when in Whitchurch Mrs Jarrett complained of a "splitting headache" and the couple returned home.

At some point after returning home Mrs Jarrett poured herself a glass of wine and sat on the sofa to watch television, while Mr Jarrett set about fixing any storm damage in the garden.

At around 2.30pm Mr Jarrett went for another dog walk as the weather had cleared and he noted that Mrs Jarrett was still sat on the sofa watching television.

Mr Jarrett returned home around an hour later, and entered the home through the kitchen door.

He saw Mrs Jarrett was no longer on the sofa and went to see where she was, discovering her at the foot of the stairs.

After receiving no response from Mrs Jarrett, he called 999 and attempted CPR until police and paramedics arrived.

Mrs Jarrett's cause of death was judged to be from a fracture at the base of her skull and she also had injuries to her ribs and sternum.

At the time of her death she was found to have had raised levels of alcohol in her bloodstream, which the hearing was told may have increased unsteadiness and the likeliness of a fall.

At the inquest, Mr Ellery reached a conclusion that Mrs Jarrett had an unwitnessed fall at their home, and that her death was accidental.
