A MAN from Ellesmere died from eventual complications of a contaminated blood transfusion he received when he was a baby, a coroner has ruled.
Nigel John Robert Moughton, 50 and from Telford Avenue, Ellesmere, died on April 21, 2020 at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
At a virtual inquest, John Ellery, coroner for Shropshire, heard how Mr Moughton, a border and immigration officer, was diagnosed with haemophilia when he was just six months old.
Unfortunately for Mr Moughton, the blood transfusion he received had been contaminated with hepatitis C.
Health issues related to this blood contamination persisted throughout his life, including a cancer diagnosis.
He was admitted to hospital with gastrointestinal issues and Hepatocellular carcinoma and despite conservative care, he passed away on April 21.
At the inquest, Mr Ellery recorded a narrative conclusion that Mr Moughton died because of his contaminated blood transfusion.
