SHROPSHIRE Council has developed a simple interactive online map to help families find the locations of supermarkets across the county that accept the government’s free school meal vouchers.
The government launched the national online free school meal voucher scheme at the beginning of April, to provide supermarket vouchers for families of benefit-related pupils who are not able to attend school because of the COVID-19 lockdown.
Phil Wilson, Shropshire Council’s learning and skills service manager, believes the map will reduce some fears around where the vouchers can be used.
He said: “As the number of supermarkets accepting the vouchers has steadily increased in recent weeks we’ve produced this interactive map to help parents find a supermarket near them at which the vouchers can be exchanged.
"We hope they find it to be helpful.”
The map is available at http://shropshire.gov.uk/free-school-meal-vouchers-map
More information about the voucher scheme can be found at www.edenred.co.uk/reward-recipients/Free-School-Meal-Vouchers/
The supermarket chains currently accepting vouchers are Aldi; Marks & Spencer Food; Morrisons; Tesco; Asda; McColls; Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.
