A FORMER Oswestry man whose reaction to a pillow bearing his late wife's face has been talking about going viral this week.

War hero Ken Benbow, 94, was presented with the cushion by carer Kia Tobin, 17, after he hugged a picture of wife Ada every night.

But speaking to BBC Breakfast, and ITV's Good Morning Britain, Ken spoke of his time living in Oswestry, where he worked as a shop errand boy, and how he used to see troops injured from the Dunkirk evacuation being brought to the area.

He added: "I used to live in Oswestry and we had the big artillery there.

"I saw all these soldiers being brought to our hospital, the Orthopaedic, and I cried my eyes out when I saw them there.

"I volunteered for the army but I was only 14 and they wouldn't have me as I was too young."

He eventually moved to Liverpool after failing to settle in Oswestry for work, where he met Ada, and he said he was bowled over by Kia's gesture.

"It was wonderful," said Ken. "We speak about Ada quite a lot.

"She was the most wonderful, caring wife anyone could have – she never did a thing wrong in all of her life.

"I can still remember the pole she was leaning on with her friends. We courted for two months.

"We were married for 71 years – it broke my heart when she left but I've got her in my arms now."
