One of Oswestry’s most popular businesses is finding a way to maintain their record of bringing excellent events to the town – but in a virtual way.

Booka Bookshop, in Church Street, is teaming up with other national book shops to bring online events with famous cook Jack Monroe headlining.

A Booka spokesman said: “Determined to ‘ride the storm’ and continue our vibrant events programme, Booka Bookshop has teamed up with our bookselling friends at three of the UK’s leading independent bookshops to organise an exciting event experience for our loyal reading communities.

“Linghams Booksellers, Bookish, Forum Books and Booka are working together on a series of ‘At Home with...’ events featuring top authors and using ‘Facebook Live’ to continue the event experience for our customers and broadcast direct to the comfort of people’s homes.

“All you have to to is pop over to Facebook, ‘Like’ the At Home with 4 Indies Facebook page and you’ll receive notification when an event is streaming.

“Get your diary ready as we’ll be announcing a flurry of events over the next week or so with more to be added on a regular basis to suit all reading tastes, including a programme of children’s events.

“Drum roll.... Here are the first three events brought to you by The 4 Indies:

“At Home with Jack Monroe on Monday, April 20 at 8pm.

“An inspirational food writer and campaigner, Jack will be talking about her food writing giving hints and tips to make the most of your isolation store cupboard on a budget.

“Then on Wednesday, April 22 at 8pm, comedian, actor and writer Robert Webb will be talking about his debut novel Come Again, which is guaranteed to delight and move in equal measure.

“And on Monday, April 27 at 8pm, twice Costa award-winning novelist Sebastian Barry talks about his new book A Thousand Moons.”
