A COMMUNITY effort to help Llanfyllin residents through the coronavirus crisis is gaining momentum.

Last month the town council vowed to reach out to every household to see who will need help and support through the pandemic.

Councillors decided to team up with Sheela Hughes, Llanfyllin’s community co-ordinator, to find out who needs, and also who is able to provide, help.

The plan will see someone designated in every neighbourhood, tasked with looking out for other residents, helping provide food and respite from loneliness.

Residents will recognise people contacting them and will not be asked for financial information.

Cllr Alexander says that so far, the town council has managed to put a postcard through each property in the town, 150 people have filled in their online questionnaire, and 70 people have offered their help volunteering.

“We’ve had a very good response,” Cllr Alexander said.

“Each street has a neighbourhood co-ordinator seeing how everyone is getting on, and Sheila has done brilliantly to get the word out.

“We’re hoping to make a real difference in the next few weeks.”

Anybody in immediate need can call Sheela Hughes on 07462 343149.

However Sheela has direct shared access to the email address and database so anybody who can make contact via email takes the pressure off Sheila answering the telephone.

All data is securely held, accessed online by a limited few and will be deleted after the pandemic.
