CAIA Park Partnership is seeking to provide extra basic help to people on the estate affected by the current coronavirus pandemic.

The aim is to provide an additional layer of help to quickly respond to the needs of local people in Caia Park who are suffering added hardship or crisis at this difficult time.

This will include distributing food and essential supplies as well as funds.

A crowdfunding campaign with a target of £20,200 has been started to create an 'Emergency Cash Fund'.

One of the first people to donate said: "In this together!"

A spokesman for the partnership said: "Our aim is to ensure the people have food, basic necessities, fuel and mobility issues resolved. Caia Park (Queens Park) has a strong history of fundraising, self-reliance and community work within its neighbourhood. We need this more today than ever.

"Organised under the Caia Park Partnership's charitable purposes we hope those more fortunate can offer monetary donations or any other meaningful donations such as food/essential items etc to support this initiative.

"We will work with other charities, relief and coordination organisations to ensure the speedy and accurate distribution of this relief aid to protect those most in need in our area. Any un-used funds at the end of the current crisis will be used to support the Holiday Hunger Project in Caia Park or a similar not-for-profit project.

"Active practitioners, community leaders and volunteers in Caia Park who are in contact with our most vulnerable residents can, via a simple but robust referral process, apply on beneficiaries’ behalf."

These include youth and community workers, playworkers, community and county councillors, staff members from the church, Caia Park Community Council, Wrexham Council (teachers and social workers, and other community leaders.

The initiative is not in place of food banks, Universal Credit awards for food, support for fuel poverty and food vouchers for children on free school meals - these should always be sought first.
