THE MP for Clwyd South has welcomed plans to support self-employed people affected by the coronavirus shutdown.

On Thursday night, a comprehensive support package for self-employed workers was unveiled by Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak.

The support includes the government paying 80 per cent of self-employed workers income up to the value of £2,500.

Also, those who are self-employed will be able to claim universal credit.

The government package is based on income calculated from their tax returns over the last three years up to the value of £2,500, and will become available in June.

Simon Baynes MP said he was glad to hear that the measures had been unveiled.

"So many residents have been in touch with me over the last few days concerned about loss of income," said Mr Baynes.

"Today's announcement was clear – the government will support everyone through this crisis.

"I'm so glad to hear that self-employed workers will be benefitting from government support too, so that we can all get through this crisis together."
