A RAILWAY group in Oswestry is appealing for funds after cancelling all of its trains until the end of next month.

Cambrian Heritage Railways (CHR) has cancelled all of its trains until the end of April due to the coronavirus outbreak, after government advice was given in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus.

It is hoping to review the situation at the end of April, and hopes to resume a train service.

The group is now preparing for a period without income, as well as a winter shutdown to follow that.

It is asking for donations which would help to keep its major project of connecting the town to Weston via rail.

A spokesman for the group said: “Due to the national situation with the coronavirus, all CHR trains are cancelled until the end of April 2020.

“The situation will then be reviewed with the hope of resuming a train service. Further news and information releases will be made via our social media outlets or our website at www.cambrianrailways.com

“At this time of growth for CHR and our extension project to Weston, this period of no income after our winter shutdown may impact on some of our activities.

“Therefore, please consider a donation to CHR to not only keep our project advancing, but also assist in keeping the local economy moving.
