Pubs, clubs and restaurants are just a number of public places set to be closed in north Shropshire from midnight on Saturday.

Shropshire Council had announced plans to shut their facilities prior to prime minister Boris Johnson's announcement that a nationwide closure would be put in place.

In north Shropshire, libraries in Oswestry, Whitchurch, Wem, Ellesmere, and Gobowen will be closed, while The Bungalow at The Mere at Ellesmere will also shut, with immediate effect.

Non-Shropshire Council-managed leisure centres will remain open at the owners' discretion, which means Wem, Oswestry and Whitchurch are still yet to announce their plans.

The closures mean that all events, meetings and group volunteering at the above sites will also be cancelled, to reduce social interaction and protect Shropshire residents.

A spokesman said: [This is] to allow us to prioritise ticketholders for events in the immediate future between now and May 31, 2020; initially, we ask that ticketholders for events beyond this date do not contact us at this time, and await further advice in due course.

"Ticketholders for events between Friday, March 20 and Sunday, May 31 2020 are offered the following options: Await further update where events can be rescheduled. Existing tickets will remain valid for rescheduled dates.

"Request an account credit. Where possible, we would be hugely grateful if ticketholders committed to visit us again when we re-open, by accepting an account credit to use against a future booking.

"Alternatively, a full refund is available."
