A third case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Shropshire.

The case, which was confirmed at 2.30pm on Friday, is not related to the previous two confirmed cases in the Shropshire Council area.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Council said that it is "likely" there will be more cases following the government's announcement on Thursday that the country is moving out of the 'contain' phase and into the 'delay' phase, and as the UK Chief Medical Officers have raised the risk to the UK from moderate to high.

They added: "It is therefore likely that we will get more cases and we want to reassure you that Shropshire Council is working with health colleagues, Public Health England and partners to do everything we can to stop the virus spreading and ensure the people of Shropshire are protected."

The unitary authority has also reitterated the new 'Stay at Home' guide announced by the Prime Minister on Thursday which includes:

- If you have symptoms of coronavirus infection (COVID-19), however mild, do not leave your home for seven days from when your symptoms started. This action will help protect others in your community while you are infectious;

- Plan ahead and ask others for help to ensure that you can successfully stay at home;

- Ask your employer, friends and family to help you get the things you need to stay at home;

- Stay at least two metres (about three steps) away from other people in your home if possible;

- Sleep alone, if possible;

- Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, each time using soap and water;

- Stay away from vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, as much as possible.

People have also been told to not call NHS 111 to go into self-isolation but to contact NHS 111 online if their symptoms worsen during the home isolation or are no better after seven days.

The spokesperson added: "Good hygiene is the best prevention and there are some simple steps you can take to protect you and your family by washing your hands regularly and thoroughly and if you cough, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue.
