COUNCILLORS are to discuss a planning application submitted to Shropshire Council for a proposed mixed-use business park on land next to the recently-opened Morrisons Food Store in Shrewsbury Road at tonight’s Planning Committee.

The revised application, submitted by Wm Morrison Supermarkets at the end of last month, shows five plots on the former Oswestry Smithfield Livestock Market including a car showroom, a drive-thru coffee shop, a drive-thru fast food unit, trade counter units and one plot which may be used for either retail, leisure or office use.

The development mix is subject to market demand and the agreement of uses and layouts for individual plots.

The Transport Statement by the applicants reads: “This statement has been prepared to assess the proposed development mix which will have the most significant impact on the local highway, i.e the highest trip generation; this therefore gives a worst-case assessment.”

Also on the agenda will be to discuss the change of use of the ground floor of former public house The Greyhound, on the corner of Willow Street and Park Avenue, as well as conversion into five residential homes.

The applicant is also requesting support for a two-storey extension to the rear of the building, with parking and amenities space.

The second application asks councillors to support an extension over two floors, with an external staircase, at the Red Lion pub on the Bailey Head.

Other applications to be discussed include the building of a single storey detached residential annex in Hampton Road, as well as a single storey extension to All Carz in Victoria Road.
