ROADWORKS on a recently resurfaced road in St Martins have been described as ‘poor planning’ by the chairman of the Parish Council.

Businesses and residents in the village were cut off from surrounding areas for two weeks and two nights last month as work on the B5069 took place between 9.30am to 4pm, causing lengthy traffic delays.

However residents were shocked to find even more disruption last week as the road was dug up once again for work thought to being carried out by BT, despite the initial roadworks in Overton Road finishing the week before.

Chairman of St Martins Parish Council, Councillor Helen Williams believes the situation has been poorly planned.

“The work went on for the five days it was supposed to, but it did cause more disruption and it was particularly annoying after just having the newly resurfaced road open,” said Cllr Williams.

“Many people have been quite disgusted by the planning of it all – or lack of it. In fairness, they’ve patched up the road after digging the trench and they’ve done a good job of it, but it’s been more disruption to the residents and businesses once again in the village.

“I’m pleased it has been done and understand that you have to put up with the roadworks in order to achieve a better road.

"It was just very poor planning.”
