Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two
Oswestry 95
Port Sunlight 0
Oswestry first XV put in a standout performance on Saturday as they out-classed top-of-the-table side Port Sunlight.
The Eagles had suffered a 19-4 defeat at the hands of the Wirral side one week earlier, but this week’s match was a lot more one-sided.
Unfortunately, the visitors came with a weakened side, but Oswestry ensured the battle was as one-sided as it should have been.
Oswestry kicked off the match and within a couple of minutes, Iwan Ellis using his pace to run through and score the first Oswestry try. The try was converted by Mike Evans-Jones.
They were constantly attacking after opening the scoring, with the whole pack dominating the scrums and line-outs, creating gaps for the backs and forwards to run through and score tries.
The visitors had no answer as Oswestry went to half-time with a 66-point lead, with tries scored by Iwan Ellis, Mike Evans-Jones, Mike Davies and Mathew Bitthell, and conversions by Evans-Jones.
The visitors kicked off the second half, and like the first half Fletcher Owen-Youens started the scoring off.
Oswestry proved they were far too strong, and carried on scoring to finish up with a 95-0 scoreline, having scored 15 tries.
There were some outstanding performances from the team as a whole, and some of the tries scored were run from over the half-way line.
Second half scorers were Evans-Jones, Mike Mhute, Ellis, Davies, Bitthell, Connor Crompton and Owen-Youens.
Oswestry are without a game on Saturday, and face Vagabonds (Isle of Man) in their next game on Saturday, March 21.
