CHILDREN in Oswestry have been getting ready for World Book Day by creating their own costumes.

Oswestry Library hosted the World Book Day-themed event, which allowed children to make their own costumes so they can dress like their favourite book characters.

Dzintra Bernsaida, who is an artist who regularly hosts events at library, was on hand to help the children create their costumes.

She said: “I like to host events like this with the children because it encourages them to be creative.

“The library is a community place, so it’s not only a place to read books, but also a chance to meet people and enjoy other activities.

“Today we have given children the chance to make costumes of their favourite characters from books ahead of World Book Day.”

She said it was interesting to see so many different types of costumes being made on the day.

“We have had people creating costumes from Alice in Wonderland, Oliver Twist, Harry Potter and some have made pirate costumes,” she said.

“I think it’s cool for children and their parents to come along and make the costumes and have fun.

“It’s good to promote reading through World Book Day, because it helps children to learn.

“It also means they can spend less time on computers.”
