A FLINTSHIRE street has started to recover from the latest round of flooding as parts of Bagillt were left underwater.

Residents of Boot End woke to the main road under 'deep water' on Monday morning.

Newly elected councillor Simon Griffiths told the Leader: "There has been an ongoing problem with flooding in Bagillt for years but the incident this morning in the Boot End was particularly bad.

"I don't think things will change much unless the powers that be deal with it properly. We have exceptional amounts of rain and high tides which didn't help but there is a problem somewhere which needs addressing."

Residents have said the area has been flooding for sometime but nothing has been done about it.

The Leader:

Leanne Reaney said: "After heavy rainfall the area in Boot End is forever flooded. All along Bagillt Road floods with heavy rainfall to be honest."

Jane Renshaw added: "Drainage there is bad, there needs to be a better system in place as the old one doesn't work properly."

One resident, who did not wish to be named, lives on the main road and he said he has witnessed the havoc it has caused.

He told the Leader that Boot End is a common area to be flooded and it happens every time there is heavy rainfall.

He added: "It was bad on Monday morning. I'm not too affected because I drive a wagon to work but I see what happens to cars when they drive through it.

"It floods all the time, every time it rains and we always tell the council about it but they never do anything. It's frustrating for everyone involved really.

"You can't walk past because it gets so deeps and a lot of cars do drive slow through it but often motorists will bomb it through not realising how deep it actually is.

"It causes so much disruption, one of my colleagues had to go the long way to work and the nearby chapel has been flooded through.

"Something really does need to be done."

The Leader:

Natasha Sheldon Lane said: "It wasn't really a flood, more of an oversized puddle. People were still driving through but that dip in the road does need sorting out because it keeps happening, the drainage system obviously isn't very good."

Cllr Kevin Rush said he will look into improving the drainage system by taking a partnership approach.

He said: "I went down there this morning with Cllr Simon Griffiths and we had a really good response from Flintshire Council who sent a Streetscene officer out.

"While they were there looking around Welsh Water said they would come and take a loot at it.

"Because of the high tide, nothing seems to be going away, that is one of the main problems we have at the moment on that road.

"I will look into it but with the high tides and amount of rain it has been difficult but it does need looking into.

"We will go back and see what we can do. Let's hope the weather gets a bit better so we don't have to put up with it.

"We will work together to get it sorted for the residents of Bagillt.
