WATER supplies have been fully restored to flood-hit Monmouth for the first time since Storm Dennis caused haqvoc there a week ago.

The town's water treatment works in Mayhill - flooded out and damaged on Sunday February 16 is now back in service.

Welsh Water announced yesterday evening that the site is back up-and-running, and "supplying clean, fresh drinking water direct to customers’ taps".

Engineers had been working around the clock to clear the site of floodwater, and the firm had been using a fleet of 40 tankers to top up Monmouth's tap water supplies.

Bottkled water dtations had also been set up in the town and surrounding areas, for those whose supplies had been cut or disrupted.

Monmouthshire County Council shared a message of thanks to Welsh Water, saying: "Amazing support during a challenging time, great communication and outstanding logistics."
