A GIRLS football team made history as the first to represent Wrexham County Borough.

Wrexham County Schoolgirls has been launched at under 13 and under 15 levels - providing what were previously unavailable opportunities for local to have the honour of representing their county.

Trials were held at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd and those who were successful made history as the under 13 team played Flintshire Schoolgirls in its first match.

Wrexham Schoolgirls will be pitted against the best from across the country in the Welsh Schools FA Competition.

And Commonwood Fishery in Holt has kindly agreed to sponsor the under 13 age group, while the under 15 team is still waiting for sponsorship.

Marc Francis, Commonwood Fishery manager, said: "We were very happy to be given the chance to sponsor the Wrexham School Girls football team.

"We believe in backing local community and grass root projects, this was a perfect opportunity to give something back and get behind our county school girls team.

"Here at the fishery we are committed to supporting local schools."

Rebecca Suckley, Wrexham Schoolgirls secretary, said: "This is a massive opportunity for all girls attending Wrexham High Schools and who enjoy football, they are able to make new friends and it is good for there health and well being.

Wrexham Schoolsgirls FA will be holding further trials over the Summer.
