Parents are fundraising to repair a school near Builth Wells that was badly damaged by flooding.

Llanelwedd Primary School has lost its canteen, office and a classroom after Storm Dennis brought flooding disruption to the area overnight.

A fundraising page with a target of £5,000 has been set up by the school's PTA to replace the damaged items.

"We are a small school with a big heart and we need your help to put our school back together", campaign organiser Carolyne Finlow-Borrowdale said.

Classroom furniture was found "totally submerged" in flood water by headteacher Adam Shearman on Sunday morning.

He praised the community for being "so kind" with offers to help.

Powys County Council said on Sunday: "As some may have seen, one school has been badly affected by the weather. Llanelwedd Primary School is significantly damaged with flooding, but please be assured we will support and work closely with the school during half term to attempt to resolve the issue. Further info in due course."

Llanelwedd Primary School replied: "Thank you for officers’ support so far. It has been hugely appreciated. We have lots of work to do but with the help of Powys County Council, our families and community we know we can beat Storm Dennis".

The Diocese of Swansea and Brecon said that they will do "all we can" to support the Church in Wales school.

They said on Twitter: "Our thoughts and prayers are with you."
