The January meeting of Bwlch-Y-Cibau Women’s Institute began with New Year greetings from the president, Hilary Jones, followed by the WI collect read by Avril Jones.
Some items in the newsletter were discussed before everyone settled down for a history lesson with a difference when Ian Mills spoke about his experiences with a metal detector.
He has found a wide variety of objects of all shapes and sizes from different types of habitats, and members had great fun trying to guess what they were and whether they had any value.
Sylvia Taylor thanked him for the most interesting history lesson they had ever attended. Supper was served by Colleen Williams and Pat Evans.
Later in the week members and friends met at The Royal Oak Hotel in Guilsfield for a New Year’s lunch which was enjoyed by everyone.
The president, Hilary Jones, presented a shield to Sheila Pickstock who had gained highest points in the competitions throughout 2019.
