A TOURISM group in Oswestry is appealing for new guides to guide groups around tours in the town.

Oswestry Borderland Tourism organises guided town tours every Saturday morning from Easter to the end of September, and booked tours for groups.

The town tour guides took more than 100 people around the town on the Saturday tours last year, but the group is worried that the tours will not be able to continue if it cannot recruit new guides.

Karen Pringle of the Borderland Tourism group has encouraged people who may be interested to get in touch.

She said: “We have four guides at the moment, and they’re all happy to provide training, so knowledge of the area is not really essential.

“All we need is for people to be interested in the area and comfortable talking in front of groups of people.

“I’ve been a guide before and we’ve run tours as a group for years now.

“It’s not something you have to commit to doing all of the time.

“It’s very flexible – you don’t always need to be available, but the more guides we have, the better.

“More guides also means rather than arranging to do one Saturday a month, it could mean doing one every month-and-a-half or two months.

“It’s really fun and very interesting; you get asked lots of different questions and find out lots of things.

“You also get to meet lots of new people which is great.”

If you or anyone you know is interested in Oswestry, likes meeting people and could spare an hour on a Saturday morning once a month during the summer, the group would love to hear from you.

Coach parties are also being encouraged to visit the town, so if you are not available on a Saturday they would still like to hear from you as these visits will be arranged during the week.

Full training will be given by experienced guides.
