A CELEBRATED screenwriter from Oswestry has joined some of the world's best known people to be named among the most influential in Britain.

Jesse Armstrong has created some of the biggest shows of the last decade with Peep Show, Fresh Meat and the hugely-successful Succession, which has been the smash hit of 2019.

He was named in the top 50 list in British GQ Magazine alongside Meghan Markle, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Greta Thunberg, among others.

Armstrong was brought up and went to school in Oswestry before going to the University of Manchester, where he met fellow Peep Show creator, Sam Bain.

His CV also includes writing on The Thick of It and its film spin-off, In the Loop as well as Chris Morris's cult classic Four Lions.

He accepted the Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series award for 'Succession' onstage during the Emmy Awards last September.

British GQ's 50 most influential people in Britain list also includes names such David Beckham, Carrie Symonds, Ed Sheeran, and former 'Man of the Year' Stormzy.

The list is reportedly chosen from people at the peak of their careers.
