A TOWN council has shared the figures behind a successful blood donation event in their area.

Holywell Town Council shared an image on social media revealing that there were a total of 64 blood donations given at a session held at St Peter's Church in Rose Hill on January 27.

According to the Welsh Blood website, donations are used in a variety of ways, from helping emergency operations and accident victims to cancer patients and premature babies.

A spokesman for the council shared the information on social media and said: “Thanks to everyone who came along to donate blood at Holywell recently, you are all lifesavers.”

Anyone aged between 17 and 66, weighing over 7 stones 12 pounds and not subject to certain medical conditions can volunteer.

The Welsh Blood service – which relies entirely on donors coming forward - needs to collect 350 donations every day across the country to supply Welsh hospitals with the level of blood to meet patient needs.

The next chance to donate in Holywell will take place at St Peter's Church in Rose Hill on February 24 however a full list of locations and dates are available on the Welsh Blood website.
