A SENIOR police officer has warned for vigilance as hundreds of litres of diesel has been stolen from across Flintshire.

There have been several reports to North Wales Police about the theft of large quantities of diesel in and around the Flintshire area since Tuesday.

Inspector Steve Owens, of South Flintshire’s policing team told the Leader how up to 2,000 litres of fuel was reported as stolen from a number of locations, including Sandycroft, Northop and Broughton.

He confirmed that around 1,000 litres was taken from an engineering park in Sandycroft, it is thought that between 500 and 600 litres was taken from a parked HGV on the A55 in Broughton and a further 450 litres was reported as missing from Northop College.

Insp Owens believes this spate of incidents in a short period of time is an organised effort.

He said: “These incidents clearly present as someone organised and knows what they are doing with the right access to the equipment needed to be able to pull off these jobs.”

The inspector urges anyone with information about these thefts to contact North Wales Police quoting the crime reference numbers; Sandycroft (Y014599), Broughton (Y016109) and Northop (Y016639).
