A SENIOR police officer has warned residents in Flintshire to remain vigilant as cold callers have been targeting a number of properties.

On Wednesday, North Wales Police issued a warning via social media about incidents of cold calling in the Mold, Sychdyn and Penyffordd areas.

A spokesman said: “We advise anyone that is visited to refrain from giving away any money to anyone knocking door to door.

"Local officers in south Flintshire are aware of the issue and are paying visits to homes to help and reassure people who have been or may be affected."

Inspector Steve Owens of South Flintshire policing team, later told the Leader: “These individuals are presenting themselves as deaf and asking for money in exchange for artwork. At an address in Penyffordd, one member of the group became aggressive with a resident and snatched a £20 note from their hand before making off.

“The resident’s son-in-law did catch up with the offender and retrieved the cash as well as taking a photo to assist with police enquires.”

He said officers are looking into reports of a group including three men and one woman.

Insp Owens added: “This behaviour falls within the likes of cold calling and will not be tolerated. We are urging people to be vigilant if you notice anything like this in your area.”
