SOME of international cricket's finest will be in town this summer as Oswestry's Stonehouse Oval once more plays host to superstar team Lashings.

Considered to be the Harlem Globetrotters of cricket, the All-Star XI take on the Birmingham Premier League side at Morda Road on Thursday, August 27 in a T20 contest.

The galaxy of cricketing stars proved to be a big hit with local cricketing fans when Oswestry played host two-and-half years ago to the celebrity XI.

The Lashings Squad this season is likely to include Mark Ramprakash, Simon Jones, Saqlain Mushtaq, Adam Hollioake, John Emburey, Devon Malcolm, Chris Lewis, Tino Best, Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose.

Also returning will be veteran commentator and national treasure, Henry Blofeld.

Club chairman Chris Wiseman earlier this week said the fixture confirmation is the end of a long year of planning with organisers.

He said: “Plans have been in the making for the last 12 months and we have finalised arrangements with Lashings.

"It proved to be a great day when Lashings were last here, despite the weather.

"We have been keen to repeat the event and many local people have been asking 'when are Lashings coming back?’”

Mr Wiseman added that the format for the day would be similar to that previously with a three-course gourmet lunch for 250 VIP guests and sponsors, with the match to start at 4pm.

Full details will be released in due course, with the Oswestry chairman hinting that there might be one or two surprises for spectators on the day.

Those looking to book a table in the luncheon marquee should contact the clubhouse manager, Carlton Leonard on 01691 653006 or 07967 456302.

Oswestry’s chosen charity for the event will be the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) in Gobowen, with who the club has enjoyed close ties over the years.
