A PUB landlady has been praised by the Mayor of Llanidloes after offering a homeless young man a room to stay in exchange for work.
Eileen Hawkins, of The Red Lion, Longbridge Street gave the young man from Cardiff a place to stay for a few days while he was in Llanidloes doing a few “odd jobs”.
At Monday’s Town Council meeting, Cllr Janet Crisp said: “One thing I was very impressed with was Cllr Kelly Hawkins’ mum at The Red Lion.
“We went into [Cllr] Trudy’s [shop] one Saturday morning and we started chatting with this young lad, a homeless man from Cardiff.
She added: “Eileen had given him a room in exchange for doing some work so I thought that was highly commendable. Really, really lovely. He was a very personable young man.”
Cllr Trudy Davies echoed the Mayor’s praise adding: “He will remember Llani well, and that he had a good welcome.”
The young man has since moved on from Llanidloes.
