Oswestry Town Council is set to vote in its new mayor and deputy mayor for 2020/21 at its full town council meeting on Wednesday night.

It is expected that Councillor Duncan Kerr will step into the role after serving as current occupant Cllr John Price's deputy for the last 12 months, in accordance with the council's standing orders.

As deputy mayor, Cllr Kerr tops the council's seniority list and councillors will be asked to ratify his appointment, as well as confirm a new deputy.

Meanwhile, councillors will also hear a motion from Cllr Paul Milner regarding inviting a senior officer from the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) to explain why Oswestry suffered from, in his view, poor ambulance response times to all incidents, including life-threatening, on Friday, December 6.

In his motion, Cllr Milner said: "I would like to ask for the council's support in inviting a senior officer from [WMAS] to attend a special meeting so that we, as councillors, can voice our concerns over recent events and also seek reassurances that their response times will be met going forward."

The meeting will start with West Mercia Police Inspector Tracey Ryan from Oswestry North Shropshire Safer Neighbourhood Team, who will be discussing general policing matters.

Oswestry Business Improvement District (BID) manager Adele Nightingale will also be updating councillors on BID projects.

Councillors will be asked to consider an application for financial assistance from the small grant scheme received from the Hillfort Creativity Group plus receive notes from Future Oswestry meetings held in November and December.

Councillors will also take in committee meeting minutes and reports, hear from its Shropshire councillors and confirm the minutes from the previous meeting, among other items.
