SEVERAL businesses who pledged to reduce their plastic waste were presented with awards by Delyn Assembly Member at Mold Town Hall.

Hannah Blythyn AM presented Mold business owners with Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) awards who achieved the criteria for business.

They have all reduced the amount of single-use plastic their businesses use, researched non-plastic alternatives and made plans for the future around even more plastic reduction.

Mold Plastic Reduction group listened to what people said at their public meetings in May and June last year and, with the help of Mold Town Council and many volunteers, the group are working through the SAS criteria.

Shannon Jones, a member of Mold Plastic Reduction’s steering group said: “It was great to see businesses come together for the presentations and to share their ideas on reducing the amount of plastic they use to help the environment. They are all very enthusiastic.”

Four of the five objectives have now been met – the last one is Community Allies, which is all about schools, churches and community centres getting involved with the Mold campaign.

The first businesses to receive their SAS plaques from Ms Blythyn are Angel Feathers, Black Mountain Honey, Celtic Financial Planning Ltd, Clickery Financial Ltd, and Rhydymwyn Service Station.

Claudia Liberatoscioli, managing director of Clickery Financial Ltd said: “I am proud to have collected our business champion award today at Mold Town Hall in association with the Mold Plastic Reduction Group. Join the campaign, we all have a part to play in protecting our environment and future!

“Clickery Financial will continue to take steps to reduce waste, protect our environment, make donations and give voluntary time to charities and community organisations that are working hard to look after our world.”

Gemma of Rhydymwyn Service Station said: “I am humbled to be awarded this Business Champion award, through just doing what we do!”

Two other businesses, which are also Business Champions, are Celtic Law Ltd and Spoons and Forks.

Hannah Blythyn AM said: “It was a privilege to present the awards as Assembly Member for Delyn in recognition of the work of local businesses to become single-use plastic free. The effort and enthusiasm of both businesses and the community is incredibly inspiring and they have my wholehearted support.”
