Plans for to boost tourism in Oswestry for the upcoming year were revealed at a brochure launch last Wednesday.

More than 50 invited members and the town’s mayor, Councillor John Price, were in attendance at the Oswestry Visitor and Exhibition Centre as Oswestry Borderland Tourism revealed its new 2020 brochure and delivered talks to outline new ambitions and ideas.

Entitled Where Shropshire Meets Wales, the new booklet looks to highlight the reasons why people are attracted to the town and the surrounding area.

Having the event in one of Oswestry’s oldest buildings, the 15th century former grammar school, emphasised one of the themes of this year’s brochure, said Lee Lucks, chairman of Oswestry Borderland Tourism.

Lee spoke of how the town’s friendliness and welcoming feel has a positive impact on the number of visitors coming to the town each year.

She explained that visitors to the town often say that the things they most enjoy about visiting Oswestry are the history, the friendliness of local people and the surprise that there is so much to see and do.

Those themes feature throughout the latest brochure.

This year’s brochure also highlights unmissable events in the town for visitors to get involved with, accompanied by images taken by Graham Mitchell.

The evening was all about telling members how Oswestry is being promoted not only locally, but also nationally and internationally.

The website has been updated Oswestry’s number one site and with more social media marketing and getting involved with other groups, Oswestry Borderland Tourism is one of Shropshire’s most active tourism associations.

Oswestry Business Improvement District (BID) manager, Adele Nightingale, and Mark Hooper from Visit Shropshire also talked about the exciting plans they have for promoting Oswestry, the Borderlands and Shropshire which will bring new visitors to town.

The brochure is available locally from the Tourism Information Centre and will be distributed countrywide throughout 2020. It can also be downloaded from the Oswestry and Welsh Borders website www.visitoswestry.co.uk
