OSWESTRY Borderland Rotary club has been hearing about the work of a local charity from its newest member.

Janet Jones, a freelance journalist who is a now trustee of the Ethos Group, outlined the work of the charity which is committed to helping people with life-changing physical disabilities to lead independent lives.

Currently, Ethos runs three sites in Oswestry which provide adapted short-term accommodation and support for ten clients at any one time.

Staff and volunteers not only deal with the physical and mental transition of the clients but also help with finding suitable long term accommodation.

"You may not have heard about Ethos and the remarkable work that it does in Shropshire," said Janet.

"But for the past 25 years the charity has been quietly getting on with transforming the lives of people with spinal cord injuries and other life-changing injuries and illnesses.

"It is unique – there is no other charity doing what it does in the UK."

She told Rotary club members that the charity saved the NHS more than £3,000 a day by allowing people to leave hospital earlier.

Ethos has recently launched an appeal to raise £250,000 through a corporate sponsorship programme and other activities to improve and enhance its properties and services.

These include installing a new hydrotherapy pool and gym, revamping facilities at the three properties in Oswestry and creating a bespoke counselling service for the benefit of clients.

Oswestry Borderland Rotary Club has already donated £400 to the Ethos Group towards the refurbishment of bedrooms at its properties.
