MORE than £1,250 was raised for a foodbank by a popular ghost story-teller getting on his bike for charity.

Rory Evans cycled from his home in Caersws to the Morrisons supermarket on Pool Road in Newtown just before Christmas, dressed as a festive elf, and was supported by staff at the store.

He remained at the store all day on Saturday, December 21, from 9am to 5pm and since October alone has raised £2,500 for various charities.

Mr Evans said the almost eight mile bike ride was worth it thanks to the generosity of everyone who donated on his behalf, and said it proved to him that Montgomeryshire is the most generous county in the country.

“I think we live in the greatest giving county, Montgomeryshire,” he said.

“It was tough but it was well worth it.

“The people are so generous. They kept providing updates on how much I’d raised throughout the day and when they announced the final amount over the tannoy I was a bit emotional.

“All the staff were so supportive all day.

“I want to thank everyone who has donated.”
