There were celebrations on Christmas Eve saw hundreds of people descend on the town square in Llanfyllin for carols.

The annual event, which is one of the most popular on the town's calendar, has been going for more than half a century, and helps raise money for charity.

Llanfyllin town mayor Peter Lewis admitted his pride at the turnout for the carols and thanked everyone for coming.

"There was a fantastic crowd at the Christmas Eve annual Carol Singing on Llanfyllin Town Square," he said.

"Nearly £300 was for Raised for this years Llanfyllin Town Mayor’s Charity– the Wales Air Ambulance .

"The pianist was Pauline Page Jones and conductor for the evening leading the singing was Nicky Dixon.

"During the event, the Rector of Llanfyllin, the Rev Hermoine Morris said a few special words and prayers for the meaning of Christmas.

"I thank everyone involved in helping the event being so successful and thanked the large crowd for donating generously.

"This a been a fantastic evening, singing carols by the tree, and is going from strength to strength with larger crowds every year, and had been taking place for at least 50 years."
