THOSE who work hard for their community in the Ceiriog Valley were recognised for their efforts earlier in December at the annual community lunch and awards event.

Awards were presented at Canolfan Ceiriog for many reasons including; involvement in youth organisations, helping children, local businesses, enhancing the image and wellbeing of the valley, preserving the valley’s heritage, going above and beyond and fundraising at both the local and national level.

Wrexham County Borough Councillor for Ceiriog Valley, Trevor Bates, was one of the key organisers of the event, and said he was pleased with how it went.

“A group of volunteers held quizzes to raise funds and then shopped, planned, prepared and cooked dinner for more than 70 locals,” he said.

“The hall decorations were equally fantastic. It was a great venue to present some well-deserved Community Awards.”

Clwyd South MP Simon Baynes was in attendance, and was quick to congratulate the winners.

He said: “I would like to add my compliments to those of Cllr Bates to all the prize winners and finalists who do so much to help their community and to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make the event such a success and so enjoyable.

“And to thank Cllr Bates himself who is tireless in his work for his Council Ward of the Ceiriog Valley and who received a rousing ovation at the Community Lunch from everyone present.”

Winners were – Owen and Aled Morris, Kirsty Williams, staff at Cross Stores in Glyn Ceiriog, Adrian Richards, The Ceiriog Tidy Team, The Glyn Valley Tramway and Industrial Heritage Trust, The raffle ladies of Ceiriog Valley Sheepdog Trials, Meirion Phillips, Ifor Richards, Eric Jones, Adam Salomonson and Edith Jones.
