PLANS to build a cycle route to a secondary school have been approved.

Denbighshire County Council’s plan for the three-metre-wide route to Denbigh High School follows Ystrad Road before turning into the Middle Parc fields behind the school. The path, which covers a total of 1,950 square metres, will provide a safer route for cyclists than the busy Ruthin Road which leads to the school front gates.

The path will be a bound surface, offering unsegregated use for pedestrians and cyclists with wiremesh, mowtop fencing and lockable gates to secure the school site. The route will still allow access to the outlying school playing fields.

Mark Young, county councillor for Denbigh, who previously supported a campaign for a Denbigh cycle path to St Asaph, said: “A small but very important pedal in the right direction for Denbigh, well done to everyone who’s helped push this first cycle for our town.

“We need now to pull together to make this the first of many cycle paths.”
